Beware of Bunnicula
The Musical
by ?
show type: musical

Celebration Theater of Lansdowne, PA opens their Fall schedule with "Bunnicula, the Musical". The production is based on the popular children's book series about a vampire bunny rabbit taken in by a family that includes two children, a cat and a dog. "For those who know the books, they know how funny the characters are, particularly the dog and cat," said director Jim Fryer. "To those who don't know it it's a very smart play adults will appreciate and with great music." The production features a 4-foot puppet along with 5 adult actors and two kids. "This show has it all," Fryer said, "puppetry, magical effects, singing, dancing and humor....with just the right amount of scariness."
Cast inculdes: Aaron Rose (puppetteer), Paul Recupero (Harold), Dana Corvino (Chester), Chuck DeLong (Mr. Moore), Barbara Bibby (Mrs. Moore), Anna Phillips (Penny) and Zuri Duckett (Toby).

Stage Director: Jim Fryer
Musical Director and Arranger: Dolores Ciavola

Bunnicula cast:

Chester: (female 21-35...yes,we know, playing a male cat)a witty, highly intelligent, singing and dancing feline. The first to suspect something is strange about Bunnicula. Very physical role. Must have musical theater experience.

Harold: (male 21-35) the dog, slightly dim-witted, loyal friend and comedic partner to Chester.Has more than his share of the laugh lines. Singer, dancer required.

note: dog and cat will be costumed normally with only a slight nod to their animal status.

Puppeteer: for Bunnicula, a 4-ft tall puppet (not a marionette) that wiggles its ears, nose, exposes fangs, yawns, blinks, hops, disappears at various time in a cloud of smoke and is a full-fledged character in the production. Puppetry experience preferred but will work with someone who is: adult (25-35 male or female), small (5'3" and under), athletic and enthusiastic. Very demanding role physically. Puppeteer is also exposed at the end of the show as the veternarian who may be asked to sing in the chorus of one song...but singing ability not essential.

Dad: (male 35-50) father of 2, typical clueless dad. Sings duet with mom. Light dancing involved.

Mom: (female 35-50) has a little more on the ball than dad. Sings duet. Light dancing.

Kids: twokids can be male or female ages 10-14. Very active. They love their pets. Singing and some light dancing involved. Musical experience preferred but will work with enthusiastic beginners.

Auditioners will be asked to read from the script. All (except puppeteer) will be asked to sing songs from the show which will bepresented karaoke style. Celebration Theater has always celebrated diversity in its casting and has cast mixed-race families several times before. May the best auditioners win!
