The Sound of Music is easily the world's most beloved musical production. The Broadway and Hollywood versions were the final collaborations of that historic duo: Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The Sound of Music won six Tony Awards as a musical and the movie, staring Julie Andrews, won five Academy Awards.
Set in Austria in the early 1930s, Maria, a young nun in training is judged to be too high-spirited for religious life. She is sent away to be a governess for the seven children of a retired Austrian Naval officer, Captain von Trapp, a widower. Over time Maria captures the hearts of all in the family. When the Nazis invade Austria, they demand that Captain von Trapp return to service in the German Navy. The newly minted Trapp family escapes in what will always be the most inspirational finale ever presented in theatre. The Sound of Music features the inspiring songs My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Every Mountain, The Sound Of Music and many more.
Recent Rodgers and Hammerstein productions by The Players include Some Enchanted Evening, a review of their works in concert and our wonderful 2003 presentation of Cinderella.
