ALADDIN
Benefit Performance by The Hill School on Tour
by Asolo Children's Theatre under the direction of Moses Goldberg
show type: comedy
http://www.tripac.org

Join the cast of The Hill School on Tour (advanced theatre students at The Hill Center For The Arts) for this benefit production of Aladdin, an enchanting “play within a play” performed in the round by a wandering band of gypsies who, tired of selling trinkets, turn to acting. For their play, they settle on Aladdin, the tale of a mischievous boy who learns a valuable lesson while defeating an evil magician. One of America’s finest examples of participatory drama, Aladdin includes several opportunities for audience participation. From roaring like tigers to growing into flowers, the audience helps resolve the conflicts of the play. This adaptation of Aladdin was created through improvisation by members of the Asolo Children’s Theatre Tour under the direction of Moses Goldberg. Goldberg is one of the foremost authorities on participatory theatre in America having directed a number of similar plays for the Asolo Theatre and Stage One: The Louisville Children’s Theatre. The director for this production is Burt Merriam, former Children’s Tour Manager of the Asolo State Theatre of Florida where Aladdin was first produced. On its inaugural tour, Aladdin was performed for over 62,000 school children throughout the southeast.
